How Do You Plan To Contribute Towards A Cleaner Earth On This “World Earth Day”?

Subjected to five cataclysmic events that had led to mass extinction of various species, Earth has endured. But how long before it cries “enough” as the six extinction is underway driven by anthropological activities that have disrupted the natural balance of the world.

Not that saving Earth needs the validation of a special day BUT in order to create awareness on the importance of sustainability and the need for minimizing carbon footprint, it is necessary to dedicate a day to a place, we call home.

Today is World Earth Day!

   History Of World Earth Day

This day is traced back to 1970, when it was first celebrated across US college campuses in 1970 on accord of the major oil spill in Santa Barbara in January of 1969. The idea behind this initiative originated from Gaylord Nelson, a US Senator and Denis Hayes, a Harvard student. It started with Gaylord Nelson, who, disturbed by the environmental impacts of the oil spill needed the energy of students to scale the idea of environment conservation to a broader public so he recruited Denis Hayes, a young activist for campus teach-ins. The chosen day was decided to be April 22nd, a weekday between Spring Break and Final Exams that would increase student participation.

What is the theme for 2024?

Plastics have different topography on a chokehold due to its extensive usage everywhere. Which makes choosing this theme apt for this year’s Earth Day theme. It is Planet vs Plastics.

An advocate of conservation of ecologically fragile spaces and conscious travel, storytelling wasn't always my goal. It started as an escape, turned into a calling and eventually spread its wings. A banking stint, a teaching tenure, an environmental thesis - a bit of everything, only to realize that I am at my best when I travel, interacting with locals, curating itineraries and threading together contributions of every element in the larger scheme of things through words and visuals.
